Popular Post CaptainQuintero
So this is the first cigar of the year after the long winter break. It's been a slog so have been looking forward to finally getting a chance to sit in the spring sunshine and relax. I haven't actually ever smoked any of these, they've been sat tucked away for what, 7 years or so now? No particular reason, they've just always been passed over but I decided that a light cigar would be best to get back into the swing of things. An Edmundo sized release, it's a size I don't often reach for, in fact even own much of, so it will be interesting to see how much I enjoy both the vitola and blend. Good even draw, flavours at cold are pretty muted, touch of tangy tobacco, no spice. Let's hope there's more to it when lit. First draws are reminiscent of SLR; a little bit of that tangy apricot nature, hint of sour and quite light tobacco. I tried the recently mentioned circular arm-swinging technique to get the burn going instead of blowing on the end and you know what, it works great! Loads of smoke, even burn and no harsh notes. I might stick with this. Second third and there's a solid core of stone fruit, but it's not heavy or overripe. It's just a gentle meander that drifts alongside a mild tobacco note. Great balance but certainly light in body, none of that syrup heaviness in something like a Upmann Mag 50 or SLR DC. Final third and the stonefruit comes right to the fore with a sticky apricot jam middle, toasted tobacco just crisping in at the edges. Medium in body now and great balance. It's taken a while to kick up but the whole journey has had a steady and pleasant evolution. At this point I decide to give the stick a final hurrah arm-swing to power it on till the end. I can tell I've been out of it for a few months. I catch my jacket with the ash and the cigar flies out of my hand as I try to bat the embers off my arm. Recently returned African Swallows take flight as a high pitched and surprisingly feminine scream echoes around the neighbourhood; I kick the cigar off my foot where it had the fortune of landing. I see my chances of winning Best Ash gracefully disappearing over the horizon along with the Swallows 90/100 14
Bri Fi
I actually laughed out loud reading this. Would’ve loved to be a fly on the wall during that last fast pitch.

Islandboy
We’ve all been there. Well, not really, just trying to make you feel better, heh heh. Thanks for the review, it’s timely as I just recently picked up a box of these. After hitting the “purchase” button, I read a bunch of reviews on FoH that indicated these were notoriously under filled. I’m hoping for the best - they certainly smell heavenly.

The ones that I've brought into my smoking box have all got good draws so hopefully yours will be fine too, it would be interesting to see if your box's flavours match up to mine after all this rest

I know it's brill to actually get out again isn't it, shorts and t shirt last weekend, back to chilly now but no snow at least and the ice has gone. Can start to potter in the garden finally!
