Papago
hi Is it okay to burn the cigar ordered by FOH right away? Or do I need to stabilize it further? Then how long would be appropriate? 30 days? 60 days? 90 days?
Popular Post Nevrknow
Go for it. You’ll get 4 different answers and it all boils down to what YOU like. I’ll burn one ROTT, then 60 then 90, then the rest go to sleep for awhile. To each his own. As I said, there are many answers and they are all correct. Popular Post Fuzz
Depends on who you ask. Some will say smoke one right off the truck, others will say wait 30/60/90 days. It really comes down to personal preference. The question is, have you done either? What do you normally do? Have you tried waiting 30 days, as opposed to smoking ROTT, and vice versa? What worked out better for you? 4

LLC
If you feel like having one right away go for it. I think you’ll find with 60 or 90 days they will be better. Not always but usually. 1
Bri Fi
If it’s a box of 25... ROTT/30/60/90. If they are good at any point I keep smoking until I think they need rest. If it’s a box of 10/12 then I wait the full 90 3
NSXCIGAR
Only need to wait if they taste sub-optimal right off the truck. 2
Meesterjojo
I think the folks here conducted a little experiment on this subject not long ago and found their newly received cigars smoked better the longer they kept them. Regardless, my last FOH order, which I received in 2 weeks, came in perfect condition. Being that I haven't stepped in a b&m in decades, these were the best I've had delivered (even considered previous FOH orders) and had no issues lighting up. Especially since the punch short de punch were from 2019. Light em up! 1
Popular Post El Presidente
Nothing wrong with lighting one up ROTT!!! Plenty wrong on forming a firm opinion on that cigar based on that tasting. Well...thats unless the opinion is that you should have given it another 29 days 😁 5 1
SmokyFontaine
I've yet to have a cigar ROTT that was better than one 90 days after receipt. I wanted to stubbornly believe everyone else was wrong and I'd be right...but...90 days rest for me. I wasted too many cigars through lack of willpower. 3
Popular Post Tdm_86
Like everything that was said before. You will need to find out what works for you. I have the luxury of having enough stock, that most boxes I buy now get put away for a few years. This is also because, over the years, I’ve mostly figured out what I like and don’t like. If you don’t have smoking stock yet, you’ll have to try what you like. If it’s something I haven’t had before, I do sample ROTT because I don’t have an aged or rested example available. Then taste again after 30/60/90 days. Sometimes they’re great immediately, sometimes they need rest and sometimes they’re just shit regardless of age/rest. Fickle things they are.

Connoisseur Kim
I myself tried ROTT once with H. Upmann Anejados Robustos before, but it had too much of bitterness with one dimensional flavor profile as well as wonky burn. So, I've always let 24:24 CCs have a nap for minimum 90 days in order to puff'em at their best. Here's the FOHrensics : 60 Day Transition Thread: Evolution of R&J Churchills and Monte 2 post, which was ROTT vs Resting Period experiment done a year ago. Hope that this post will help you to seek the answer 😃 3

DanWil84
Go for it, I haven't got the best experiences with it, but you'll never know if you don't try. The shop I buy stores them at a high rh to my liking for CC, a month at my preferred rh is setting them down nicely. BrightonCorgi
Cigars are for pleasure. If you like smoking the cigar ROTT; nothing wrong with that. Many on this forum have enough cigars where they can show some restraint when they get a new box, but that's not 100% the time.

And cigars are sturdy - they have been rolled with raw material 3 years old or older. It is NOT rocket science or brain surgery where a junior gets to do scary things and might fail - it is tobacco leaves rolled & ready to be smoked. Never had an issue smoking ROTT.

There are likely thousands of years of smoking experience on this forum. Only yours really matters to you. A life of smoking is experienced first hand, not via proxy. Yes, I think there is something to be said for collective wisdom. But please remember, you are your own expert. The only way you will become proficient and comfortable with your own practices, is to practice them! Enjoy your journey. Welcome to the forum. Share your experiences and be known. Some of us believe that the taste of cigar is a matter of age. Some think it is more water content and consistency of water in the tobacco. Of all the posts above, I think @Elpresidente is really the most accurate. Smoke the cigar, but what you do with the data is what is really important. Understand you have tried one cigar and that is only one small part of your smoking experience. Live, and try, listen and decipher, experiment and learn. There are no real shortcuts. And... why would you take them? Cheers! -Piggy
Chas.Alpha
I would add this: Got a 10 ct. box of Media Luna off of clearance a couple of weeks ago. The wrappers seemed somewhat veiny and just not appealing. 2 weeks down in my humi cab, smoothing out and almost attractive. Let’s see what another month brings... 9 hours ago, PigFish said: I think this pretty much... Don’t listen to him! He’s a swine!!! Sorry, Pig.
