Popular Post CaptainQuintero
I think this is my last one. I haven't particularly been saving it for any special reason, just slowly working through my singles drawer. Still it's a sad occasion when something is gone from the world never to be seen again. I feel this more heavily with El Rey del Mundo; such a shadow of its former self. The cigars left over are such a poor reflection of what was the Cohiba of it's day. Long and skinny vitola, glorious lonsdales. You get the familiar picture. Still, I've this one left. Gorgeous dark, oily wrapper. Draw is a little on the loose side which is a disappointment. One of those that you know will have a bit of a grubby edge to it purely down to the draw being too open. No strong flavours at cold. Touch of spice not much else. Lighting up and it's going straight to that loose draw flavour-house: a bit grubby and exhaust pipe. Sparks of sour fruit, plum but not quite ripe enough to enjoy. There's a touch of a malty undercurrent but can't quite out my finger on the specifics. Second third and the unripe harshness has faded and the plum nature has come to the fore but in a jammy package. There's a touch of the sourness still but it's balanced with that deep conserve-like sweetness. I can't say plum is something I've had with these, or any ERDM before. I suspect the draw is coming into play more than the blending. Final third and it's a pretty similar story but gradually growing darker. It's not been overly complex, and I'm not one who believes that a cigar has to have massive evolution to be great. But, it has to do what it does well. I'm not sure this is achieving that. Still it's been pleasant, although sad to end on a relatively low point compared to the rich porridge with lashing of honey that previous sticks from this box has delivered 89/100
Midas
That wrapper looks incredible, even more so considering it’s 25 years old! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
