Ok. As he said, he is pissed about Yankees whining about price increases. Fuzz explained the duties and issues with shipping.
So when you have to pay 200-1750 extra in duties for one box, or even sniff a little extra duty of 15 bucks maybe you’ll understand. Plus wait 2 months to get the box while it sits in there. You fellas have it easy.

This makes no sense.  So nobody can not not like price increases because someone else somewhere else already pays more???  So people upset with increasing food prices (or any item) should just be quiet and not be upset because people in Hawaii are already paying more for that food (or other item)??  We can all respectfully gripe about increasing prices.   It is impacting everything we are buying these days and politely venting is just good mental health.  Whether you previously paying X for cigars or 3x for cigars last year.  Paying a % more on X or 3X is something we are all experiencing.

Now if just my company would pay me this new inflation rate, all would be well :)

This is my view, I'm a single man with no kids. When I kick the bucket, who am I leaving my hard earned money too? Some politician's election fund? The government? A multibillion dollar nonprofit char

Honestly they are too expensive already when you factor in plugged/ underfilled etc.

FYI, prior to January 20, inflation was almost non existent. I buy gasoline and groceries. Sleepy Joe owns this.

To be honest I hear a lot of complaining about prices from Canadians too so your point is not entirely off, but a major issue is that we don't get to vent in the same way about our end prices. Complaining/talking about duties is not allowed (neither is complaining/talking about shipping). Totally understandable why that is but it still makes for an annoying situation.

I just purchased my first non-Cuban cigars since 2015 due to the price increases. I’m getting low on some of my faves, but I have enough of most Cubans to hopefully get over this price bump. For Cubans, I have only purchased a 50 cab of RASS and Hoyo de Monterey Epicure # 2 during the COVID era, but the price increase for these was reasonable.

I feel Cubans are definitely superior, but the standard Cuban Robusto 25 box is now pushing nearly $300 USD ($280ish). A Padron Robusto 26 count box can be had for $175-$195 USD. Cubans are better, but not $100 better average per box for most marcas. A standard Cuban Robusto isn’t worth $4 more per stick than a Padron.

Have u seen prices of Padron 26 and 64's lately? I'm seeing $300/box on average at online shops. If you are paying  175-195, you are getting a deal!

No I wish. Same here in Virginia for Padron 26 and 64. I’m referring to 2000 or 3000 series. For example, I absolutely think that a Cuban Romeo y Julieta Exhibicion # 4 is superior to a Padron 3000, but not worth $80-$100 more per box. These prices have me smoking some Nicaraguan cigars for the first time in 6 years. I’m talking about “standard” Cuban Robusto prices. Cohiba and other premiums are different. If the difference in a Padron Robusto per box is $80-$100, I can’t pick many Cubans over the Padron in this market. If prices were within say $25, I’ll go Cuban every time. Again, Cohibas and other premiums don’t apply to this logic.

I need to restock some of my favorite Cubans: Romeo y Julieta Exhibicion # 4 , H. Upmann Connoisseur # 1, Juan López Selección # 2 ; but I just can’t convince myself with current pricing, I’ll choose a $195 Padron 3000 every time in such a predicament, over the $280 Cuban box. I’ll still buy premiums like Cohiba, etc. I still feel that RASS, Saint Luis Rey Regio and Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure # 2 are great values, but other standard releases are too high right now.

Whereabouts in VA? We just moved from Winchester to warm, snow free Myrtle Beach, SC! Won't miss the Winchester snow. Currently waiting on a brand new house to be completed!

We indeed have it crazy good in the US when it comes to CCs. Customs enforcement is virtually nil, no taxes & cheeeapp pricing from overseas. I truly feel bad for those in Canada & Australia.

I'd also like to add my Panthers are now 3-0.

Yes the Panthers look very good so far. As far as my Giants, the typical 0-3 so far. Pitiful

Hey I was just explaining someone else’s frustration as a member said “why”?
Yes I agree, we are all upset about it and it’s venting it good for mental health. This is why he said he was pissed in his own right. I was just explaining.

And then there are the boxes that get opened, trashed and returned to the vendor with that pretty green "Inspected by US Customs" tape.

I do not think you want to see a pic of what happens to the cigars.

I’ve seen pics of this but only ever had any ‘feedback’ once corresponding with prob 100+ boxes. The kicker is THAT one box actually turned up years later randomly.

Oh lort, be careful and watch your back down there in Murder Beach.  Used to be a good clean place to vacation,  you couldn't pay me to go back. It's gotten kinda rough down there

I note the poll is majority pay whatever it takes. Now, here, the UK, a CC robusto starts at 20£ (27$) with a CoRo at 37£ (50$) each. 77$ in Oz!?

Which is well above where the poll ends. Recalibrate the poll?...

These are online prices. To go to a lounge, you'd probably pay 30£ to 60£ for a robusto these days.

So where would our poll responders stop?

Ofc there are some wealthy enough not to care 😊 well done you lot.

Is it true a Siglo VI is up to $100 usd in the UK? If so that's insane.

It is 90 £ for a Negroni at the Ritz

It is 8£ for a Negroni at the Chelsea Arts Club.

Far less variance in cigars obviously but there is a big cost difference in buying high street and online.

A significant percentage of London (and yes, London is not england") cigar trade is tourism. Cigar tourism.

100 £ is what many of those buyers tip.

Yup. $70 is the cheapest price you'll find a siglo vi here online if any available. The biggest online retailer here is already priced $100. So the rest will follow.

As Rob said, retail is a whole different price band again.

Hahaha. Media induced hysteria my friend. Crime has certainly increased during the pandemic over the last 2 years in the Oceanfront tourist district, but I would never go there anyway and this increase has happened in the US as a whole. We have the Chesapeake Bay, multiple “locals” beaches, rivers, lakes, parks, etc. VA Beach is a fantastic place to live unless you crave the city vibe, but I would never vacation here. In fact, for the past 30 years, VA Beach has been in the top 5-10 US cities over 300,000 population for both safety/low crime and best places to live.

aren't cuban cigars illegal in the USA?

I’ve read the good responses to that question, but I think the answer is currently: None of us know for sure. In recent times it was under the Helms-Burton act of “trading with the enemy” where it was technically illegal for a US citizen to smoke a CC ANYWHERE on the planet, into you can import $800/100 sticks, into “Go to Cuba, have fun!” Into “Go to Cuba, but you can’t stay in a hotel or bring back anything fun.”

I sure as hell don’t know the current answer, as it pertains to bringing back a few boxes from Germany... <edit> or Australia. 😬

Last time I was in Myrtle beach (several years ago)  my girlfriend  and 2 other couples took a cab to the boardwalk.  Went in a bar, grabbed a beer and realized that we were in the wrong crowd.  Left walked around and found d another waterhole.  Drank 1 beer and the ladies wanted to go grab a bite to eat. First guy out the door was immediately snatched up by the police and they were placing him under arrest for being drunk in public. We explained to the police that he had only 2 beers all day and we were going out to eat. Their response was all of us was going to jail if we didn't leave immediately.  So we walked 34 blocks( with their bicycle escort all the way) back to the motel. I packed my things the next morning and have never thought about going back.

The statistics are skewed. If it were that bad, my Mom wouldn't have chose to retire here. There are so many moving to the area there is a housing shortage. Most of the crime is concentrated in certain areas that have always been bad and likely involve drug dealers and gangs. Our brand new house being built is nowhere near these bad neighborhoods, and 5 to 10 miles can make for two different worlds. Also the beaches south of Myrtle are where the locals go, there is no commercialism, little crime and those in the know, know.

Bingo!

After trying a bunch of robustos over the past 4 years, I've come to the conclusion that robusto aint for me.  BRC is probably the only I'd buy again and I'm ok at $9-12 a pop.  The rest are at the bottom of storage waiting for time to perform some magic on them...we'll see.

I felt so alone with this sentiment. I just can't get around the robusto format.

I love sub-50rg long smokes.

For me, Robusto is my preferred, then Pyramid, then Petit Corona. Anything larger than a Pyramid, I don’t care for.

I like to alternate between petit coronas and robustos. And have a #2 on occasion. As for the big ring jawbreakers, no thanks.
