Partagas Corona Cab 50

Recommended Posts

Purchased this cigar from Rob's aged cigar list as a single - Partagas Corona from a cabinet of 50.

After losing a cricket semi-final I drowned my sorrows with team mates at our local pub - The Gunn Island opposite where they run the Aussie Grand Prix. This cigar and the Alpha Pale Ale on tap were just the tonic needed to lift spirits.

The wrapper was a nice mid tan colour, smooth with an oily sheen. It started to unravel a little. But this didn't really bother me. I kind of like it when it gets a bit scruffy. This didn't effect the burn or draw in any way. There was a little wind about as we sat in the sun reflecting on dropped catches and missed opportunities but never once did this fine corona need re-lighting. It just smouldered away gently with a nice firey red cone with a draw just on the tighter side of easy. That's the way I like it. I reckon you get more flavour with a draw like that.

The flavour didn't really come into it's own until the second third. Infact, the first third was little disapointing with muted flavours. But this was just the warm up.

The second third was where the classic Partagas pepper and some of the sweeter notes came through along with the woodiness present in the first third.

This cigar is worth the wait for the final third. This is where it all comes together right to the nub. All the true distinctive Partagas flavours marry together powerfully.

If you're a Partagas lover I would snap up a few of these as a great afternoon, early evening cigar.

I'd like to thank this cigar for making me realise it was a beautiful 28 degree day, drinking good beer with mates...and the night was only young.

I'm not very experienced at giving scores but here goes - 85/87ish

» I keep hearing that the Partagas Corona "is much better from the 50 cab".

» Is that true? Why is that?

I do not know the answer to that question but the cab I got from Czars are great. Something about having 50 just allows me to smoke more often and enjoy all the more. I have been buying more cabs lately. A dress box of 25 just don't last.

Rob can you get me a cabinet of the Siglo VI?;-) Oh do they make a DOUBLE cab? Can you just picture 100 Sig VI in a box? OMG!!!!!!!!:-P

My top 3 Corona is a little unfair as two are no longer in production:

In no particular order:

Partagas Corona

Ramon Allones Corona

Bolivar Corona

I have seen plenty of awfull cabs but as a rule I prefer them over dress boxes. I find (...very subjective) that they age faster or at least differently. Something to be said about tobacco resting on tobacco.

I tried one of these over this past weekend. I'm don't know the codes,

but it was part of the January special (thanks Czar Crew)

Construction-wise, it felt nice initially, but after it had warmed up a bit, it

became somewhat mushy, though not enough to cause any problems.

It had a nice draw and good smoke volume.

The wrapper was a nice medium brown, with a slight sheen. Light veining.

Taste - it started out with pepper spice on the tongue, but this subsided and

became a background element as I smoked. It had a core of earthy tobacco,

with some subtle floral hints that came and went throughout. I'd call this one

medium to medium full in body, but double puffing a couple of times revealed

some serious underlying power. I enjoyed it, but I'm not sure if this would be

a go-to
