Guest crossbow
My local wine shop vendor recommended this Aussie Shiraz, Ken I wonder if you have come across it. D'Arenberg Mclaren Vale "The Footbolt" Shiraz 2002 and 2003. Any notes?
skid11
Hi Crossbow............... not Ken here but since d'Arenberg is one of my favourite wines I'll put my two bob's worth in. They are a respected wine maker from the McLaren Vale region South Australia and their reds are known for being big & bold with good cellaring potential. The Footbolt Shiraz is a 4 star wine (Bradley's 2006 wine vintage guide)and the 2001 & 2002 vintages are great years and drinking till 2028, they retail for around $20 - $25 per bottle here in Aussie. Their flagship red is the "Dead Arm" Shiraz very nice when you can get it. Check out this link for more info[link]http://www.darenberg.com.au[/link] I don't no much about Napa Valley reds so Ken may be able to give you a comparative wine style ?? Hope this helps cheers Skid

I have two, a 02 and a 03 Shiraz. They sell here in NY for $20 plus tax. Expensive but worth it. Preparing the "drink now" cellar for the coming of my brother(from Sydney Australia). Ken Gargett
footbolt is a terrific drink and great value (here). 2002 is the brilliant vintage and 04 will be the next great one tho 03 should be fine as well. they went through a dodgy patch (this wine, not d'arenberg who really do make a very wide range of excellent reds) about 8-10 years ago and the wine seemed a bit grubby for a few vintages but that has been long resolved and they really are enjoyable and have been for a while.
