Hello all!

Registering for this site is like discovering the secret room at the back of the video store....cigar porn??

I am relatively new to cigars, but noticed right away what a huge difference there is between cuban and, well, everything else. To date, I have sampled the following cubans:

Partagas: Serie D No. 4, Serie P No. 2, Lusitanias, and Shorts

Montecristo: #2, Especial #2, and Edmundo

Cohiba: Siglo II, VI, Piramides LE

Ramon Allones: Specially Selected

San Cristobal: El Principe

Jose El Piedra: Cremas, Brevas, Cazadores

Sadly, many of these were smoked without proper aging. My question (for now, as I have a million of 'em) is this: how long does the average cuban cigar need to sit after manufacture date to become at least "decent"? I suspect I will get a wide range of answers, including "it depends" lol. But, for example, the Edmundos I have left still taste quite ammonia-like during the last 1/3 (born Oct 05). I can tell they are gonna be great...but when? And my new box of Partagas Serie D No. 4 just arent anywhere near what I know they can be (they were born Dec. 05). And lastly, should I keep my new box of Bolivar Corona Gigantes (Feb. 06) or should I try to upgrade to something older?

Im out of storage room in my Humi and need some smokes for right now. Thanks in advance for all your sage advice!

Looks like you have a great start in your cigar journey. I will read what everyone else posts on your questions because many of them pertain to questions I have. Welcome aboard from one newbie to another!

Welcome!

Best before three months or after 3 years is the golden rule of thumb.

Ihave no problem smoking young RASS, Partagas D4 or Boli Royal Corona. I enjoy young Cohiba. Almost everything else needs that little bit of extra time.

You can always drop a line to Lisa ([email protected]) and she can point you in the direction of some good 03 or stock.

Welcome Aboard! Arrrggghhh. . .

I think all that has been said is true. But I also don't think you can apply any rule across the board. Some require more time than others and some lines seem to fall into this category more than others. IMHO
