Ken Gargett
also in Double Corona section. From ENH OCT 03. Found this to be a really interesting smoke. Colour was a light brown, almost pale. Appeared to have good construction but it was a bit crumbly on clipping. Thought that could be a concern but proved not to be. Opened with a lovely creamy coffee character and this persisted through much of it. The flavours were subtle and mild and remained so throughout. As it moved through the first third, the creaminess added a gentle spicy note and some really attractive roasted nut flavours. Also a sweet woody note. Offered an immaculate burn and near perfect ash right through. Was very consistent and once lit, never needed any further attention (nothing more distracting or certain to irritate than having to relight every few puffs). Draw was firm: not too easy but also not overly tough. Did get a little hot on the finish but overall, a very pleasant mild smoke. Even though only a year older than the Lusi from the other day, much more complete and mature. Suspect that around 2-3 years, suits these and not sure any need to go much further. Be interesting to see an even younger one. I reckon that this would be a good smoke for an afternoon when one is not completely focused. Last time I looked at these was about four years ago and from the notes, I was very underwhelmed, so nice to see an improvement. 90.
El Presidente
The Hoyo DC in my experience need less time than the Lusi to develop. Mild and Hoyo cream charachters dominateand intensify up to 7 years of age. I find older examples tend to lose some of the flavour intensity but remain silky smooth. Ken Gargett
will you please get rid of that idiotic 'signature' or 'call sign' or whatever you want to call it. we saw just how much of each applied when you forgot the wife's 40th.

Colt45
Single no codes Construction: overall very nice, but could feel a knot under the band Wrapper: beautiful! Medium brown with a distinct reddish tinge. Smooth, with a terrific sheen. Draw: tight - but not unsmokeable. Smoke volume was good. As it warmed up, I was able to carefully knead the knot under the band, which helped the draw somewhat. Taste: while I think the draw hindered this one a bit, it was still an enjoyable smoke. It was close to medium in body, and smooth as silk. The main flavor profile was a floral/fruity quality - almost a flavor of peaches. In the last third, it became more earthy, with a noticeable increase in power. Draw notwithstanding, I really enjoyed it. I've only recently started trying some different churchill/DC format cigars, and have found almost all to be tightish on the draw. Aside from a plugged cigar, I'm starting to wonder if maybe it's a simply a matter of extra effort required to pull air the length of these? I'm thinking power drill with a fine bit :-D

jjwright
Never had a bad one. Love the complexity of these even when young.
Smokiethebear
This is actually my favorite HdM. I'd take it over an Epi2.
anacostiakat
I agree and think these are very nice! The DC is one of my favorite vitolas. I find them somewhat different than the Epi #2 though. Which I just finished a box of '03s and like very much as well! :-P

Well, I would agree that to me they are on the mild/medium side and I might go for a Boli or something else with more frequency but I do find them to be very flavorful and an enjoyable smoke. :-)
greenpimp
I had an 03 last year and found it very flavorful and not at all mild.
