Anything with Duane Allman

Towards the end Jimi, when he was playing more funk

Believe it or not John Mayer is quite the guitar player.

The list could go on forever, but a few that come to mind immediately:

Aerosmith Rocks - Whitford/Perry

Van Halen - the first record was such an eye opener.

Steve Howe of Yes - I was always a fan.

If I'm not so lazy, some day I'll post a few pics of a couple of my guitars.

Excellent list. I saw Floyd in Chicago when Dark Side of the Moon came out...holy crap...problem is I only remember small portions since I was going in and out of...of...reality shall we say !!!:-D Blues and hard charging rock & roll. Nothing better. But I can listen to any good guitar music. How could I have forgotten Led Zep and Blacj Sabbath. .Jimmy2...Robin Trower Bridge of Sighs was absolutely kick ass too. You guys are making me get all nostalgic here. ime to break out the old albums !!!! If anyone wants to post guitar pics that would be very cool. Crazy what the values are on the vintage stuff now.

» Hard Rock Gentlemen. Pure screaming complicated guitar ;-)

You said the two right words...

Go get:

- Yngwie J Malmsteen's Rising Force

- Steve Vai's Flexable, or greatest hits

- Racer X: Street Lethal, and Second Heat

- Impelleterri: Greatest Hits is probably your best bet

- The Scream: Let is scream

- Paul Gilbert: Most of his solo stuff, but Get Out of my Yard is serious

- Joe Satriani: Hits will do you right, otherwise Surfing with the Alien

- All the first 3 or 4 Ratt albums

- Dokken: Under lock and Key, Back for the Attack, etc.... all early ones are great

- Megadeth: Earlier albums that had Marty Friedman on guitar... he's rather shred-a-licious

- David Lee Roth: Eat em and Smile, with Steve Vai; Skyscraper and A Little Ain't Enough with Jason Becker... easily one of the GREATEST guitar players of all time. The fact that he is immobilized by ALS, could bring tears to anyone's eyes.

- Winger - The first two albums; Reb Beach is does some outstanding, melodic solo work

- White Lion: First 3 albums; Vito Bratta plays some of the most beautiful, rockin guitar solos the 80's ever saw.

- Van Halen - as far as complicated guitar rocking... not SO complicated, but all the albums (arguably) up to OU812 are pretty damn good.

- Guthrie Govan - Has some several solo albums; a little harder to find, but does this rock jazz-fusion thing... he is ridiculous. Believe it or not, he was in Asia before the band reunited with all the original members.

- Freak Kitchen/Mattias Ecklund - Excellence

- Bumblefoot/Ron Thal - Is one of the greatest in the last 20 years.. a new age guitar hero. Belvie it or not, he is in Guns and Roses now.:-P

Anyway Presidente, I could keep going for ages! :-D

Let me know.. I could hook you up with a lot of good stuff, If you would like.

Also, I'll post some youtube links to some of this stuff..

» A couple more come to mind:

»

» Glenn Tipton of Judas Priest. Usually unheralded, but one of the finest.

»

» Leslie West of Mountain.

»

» Thin Lizzy - a few different guitarists over the years, but I always loved

» their sound.

Yeah, I love Judas Priest. Glenn Tipton is pretty good. He's not particulary amazing, considering some of his company of the 80's (70's era, he a was better than many of the time).... this is solo work, i'm referring to. As far as rocking metal, him and K.K. are some of the finest.

Not big into Leslie West, although Mississippi Queen is great.

Thin Lizzy... some classics there. John Sykes plays. Excellent player! He was the one who wrote all of Whitesnake's 1987 album. David Coverdale kicked him out some after the album was released, and replaced him with Vivian Campbell and Adrian vanderberg. It was YEARS before I found that out:-D Either way, I hear both Coverdale and Sykes are both ****** bags, but rock heroes non the less.

Amen to that.

Sabra Cadabra is still one of my favourite guitar tunes. Powerfull and emotive chords.

Metallica did an excellent cover of it too...

» What are your favourite rock guitar "greats" ?

Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, and Joe Satriani played this together at a trubute concert. Johnson was fast but too smooth.

I think the previous posts covered everything ... almost.

I did not see two guitarists that are underrated - Todd Rundgren and Prince.

I saw Rundgren as part of a Ringo Starr tour. Jack Bruce was part of the lineup. Rundgren showed his chops on White Room.

Prince is a great guitarist.

Honorable mention to Steve Hackett also.
