Rob, are the cigars in this collection of better quality construction and appearance wise compared to those found in the standard boxes?

Let me put my HSA hat on.

I have only opened the one box but I suspect the cigars are of the highest standard as you would expect from the worlds leading premium cigar company

Let me put my FOH hat on.

"No" :D

In all honesty. This is not really to smoke but a collectors item. If you purchase it purchase it with that in mind.

As well as being a die-hard cigar smoker - I'm also a collector of cigars and related rare stuff.... but I really find this type of release boring.

And if it's not really appealing to a guy like me who 'must have everything'.... I don't know who it's going to appeal to.

$30.00 each for THAT selection of cigars? What utter robbery! So Rob is quite right when he speaks from under his FoH hat.

Let me put my cigar consumer hat on.... Paying the asking price for these will only encourage continued price gouging by HSA. As a group we need to discourage the pricing trend aimed at making Cuban cigars a "luxury" item. We do that by NOT buying these cases or the Cohiba Sublimes Book or the PSD2 Reserva to cite just three unGodly overpriced examples.

I'm not trying to stick Rob with a bunch of unsold inventory, but if that's the result, maybe he can get the message back to HSA that we're mad and hell and we're not going to pay the prices any more.

Personally, I believe that truly one-of-a-kind products like the Sublimes and Gran Reservas deserve their higher prices, because of the uniqueness and quality of the product. However, simply putting an additional band on top of a bog-standard cigar does not make it more desirable than it already is. As mentioned earlier, this particular release is kinda... boring.

This is a truism. But as I have stated before... there is an ass for every seat and these will likely sell, but not sell out.

Rob, when they have 5 years of age and are about $60 I may want to pick one up! :rotfl:

Now Beetle I agree with you until you limit your statement and exclude some cigars as being truly special. Those truly special cigars are now seen in hindsight. The fact still remains that H SA does not guarantee taste performance. I see no difference in these special addition cigars except for the collectors/speculator market where now a couple have proven to be good tasting cigars and they have shown an increase in value. As these two cases have shown, if you happen to get outstanding cigars the value can explode. IN MOST CASES the taste of these cigars is no better than the SCdlH La Punta I smoked yesterday and you will waste your money buying them.

Gentlemen, H SA is in the business of selling cigars! This is a way that they have been able to grab a small piece of the Christies (sp)/speculator market at the manufacturing level. The value of high end cigars is not "manufactured" it is earned. That is what makes this whole process of "EL" cigars a gimmick. Certain rare and exceptional cigars have earned the premium they receive. THESE cigars have not earned that prestige. The prestige was created via marketing. You may get a winner, that has been pointed out... but the odds are you are going to pay too much for a cigar that smokes no better than a Partagas Corona; a great cigar that they don't make any more because people buy this ****!!! -Piggy

Soap box put away... I am going to my cardiologist now!

I was speaking with a Canadian vendor, who was flabbergasted that I wasn't interested in this case. After the talk of late concerning the Seleccion robusto 5'ers, I am hesitant to buy anything but regular (regular production/EL and RE)sealed boxes. Actually, RE's make me nervous now too.

This whole Habanos habit has me wondering what we're ACTUALLY getting for our money vs. what we're told/what we would expect.

Always a concern, but with rising prices, stagnant salaries, and much less disposable income, for many perhaps now more than ever.

In my case......rising prices, no salary (retired), my share based superannuation decimated, and bank interest rates halved: definitely now more than ever.

Seen some go north of $500USD.  Remember though, there are the ones given out at the Festival and there were also the "replicas" for general sale.  Never seen the Festival ones change hands.

Out of interest, is there any difference between the two?

Far as I know, the festival one was handed out at the 2008 festival, which probably had... a few hundred attendees?

The production version was 20,000 units and followed in 2009. Same cigars AFAIK.
