Colt45
On the advice of Oz and other members, I picked up and read the first two books of the Dirk Pitt series. I pretty much agree with what members have said - fun, easy to read, fairly unbelievable. As Cussler himself admitted, he had not intended to publish Pacific Vortex, and I can see why - it was a bit over the top, but enjoyable enough nonetheless. I thought The Med Caper was more well written, though I still feel the plots are thinnish, and that things happen a bit too easily in both. I don't know if the later books are better crafted? I probably would not buy more, but would certainly read more - say borrowed or from the library. In this genre, I think I'm more a fan of Randy Wayne White. buster
I think what you see is what you get... it doesn't really change through the series. Easy mindless adventure reading for the airport and, as we refer to it in my house, reading in the "office" Best from the library or the $1 rack. Colt45
Best from the library or the $1 rack. Yes, I think that'll be the way to go for me.
