I’m smoking this Monte 2 Gran Reserva in the tiny (but charming) basement smoking room, right underneath the tiny (but charming) London cigar shop where I bought it.  Life couldn’t get much more perfect than this.

The biggest Montecristo cigar around is this one, but don't fooled, it's not the strongest. At 47 ring gauge x 235 mm in length (that's 9¼ inches!) this felt like a toothpick in diameter in comparison to the mammoth Sautter Custom Super Mario Habanos cigar I smoked prior to this one.

At two months short of two years in age, this was simply sublime. The Montecristo coffee and cocoa was there, albeit in a diminished capacity, however, it was the flavours that complimented the muted Montecristo quintessential flavour which esteemed it so highly. @Luca smoked one with me this night and what I labelled as almond nut he noted as hazelnut, like Frangelico liqueur, which upon reflection I believe is quite apt. However, in regards to the orange citrus twang like Cointreau, there was no doubt whatsoever, for this was the absolute superlative flavour which held us both in attentive bliss for easily over 2½ hours.

So, in summary, if you are looking to this cigar to overwhelm you with strength or complexity, then look elsewhere, otherwise do yourself a favour and give this some time to rest (at least 12 to 18 months in my opinion) and hopefully you could sit back and enjoy it like I did. This is a strong candidate for my best cigar of April thus far.

I still can't believe how great the flavours were. I loved the Monte A we smoked. I'm glad I have some in my OLH. I am excited to see how they are after 5 years of aging. Maybe more!

At the start I got some nice sweet fruit and bread notes. It reminded me of Panettone. A bit of spice on the retrohale. 

Towards the mid point I then started to get a bit of a Paneforte taste of fruit, nuts and a touch of chocolate. It was as if I was eating freshly made Paneforte that my Nonna makes every year. Spice on the retrohale had gone by this point.

The panforte flavours continued until the end and the spice on the retrohale picked up again. Lovely cigar. Thanks again John!

I can’t say for sure because I didn’t get my hands on this 2014 box until late 2017. It was a HQ box from 24:24 and already had a few years in it when I bought it.

The first few sticks from the box were too rough, too unrefined. I tried one every six months or so, just to check. This one hit the mark from the time I lit it up. It finally clicked.

One of my favorite days of the year - Patriots’ Day! That means I’m working from home while enjoying a ERDM Lonsdale from ‘01 while listening to the Red Sox 11:00 AM start.

Had break time cigar with H. Upmann Half Corona from weekday sampler. Great draw, taste and burning (few touch ups only)! Highly recommended for both beginners and those who look for quick smoke.

El Rey del Mundo Demi Tasse SGA Sep 2016

The El Rey del Mundo Demi Tasse can be such a delightful little flavour bomb and this was no exception. This had the usual lemon citrus combining with a core fruit and shortbread profile and some floral and honey notes on the edges. It was just a tad 'toasty' in places. My aim is to get more of an almond nut flavour out of them as they age long-term.

So yesterday was supposed to be the beginning of a 3 day camping trip to my favorite spot down on the Kenai Peninsula. I brought a fiver of great cigars gifted by great friends. Unfortunately, things didn't go quite as planned. I got about 2 miles up the trail and hit an impenetrable wall of the most terrible kind of snow. You're standing on 2 feet and everything's fine - you're on top of the seemingly hard-packed snow. You take a step... or try. ONE leg sinks. You're now waist deep in the stuff, and your other leg is pretzeled around your head. You can't do the splits - why is the snow trying to FORCE you to?!?! To make matters worse, sometimes the snow at the bottom of this leg-hole collapses around your boot, locking you in. My little soldiers were a wee frozen. My knees got wrenched more than a few times from the sudden split drops into the snow. I turned around. Lesson learned. Always bring the snowshoes til atleast May.

Not all was lost, however. The drive down there is one of the best in the world. I picked a day with clear weather and was rewarded for the choice. Got to enjoy a 2018 @awkwardPause SCDLH La Fuerza with a view of La Glacier (Portage Glacier), and was delighted by the evolution of that cigar while taking in some of the best scenery Earth has to offer - Turnagain Arm. Great day.

Over the weekend, had this RyJ Short Churchill, MSA May 18, AND Orange Juice.

Nutty, light fruit and milk chocolate undertones. Loving this OJ as new drink of choice for my daytime cigar.

Super subtle and delicate flavors. Not nearly as robust as I expected. The least “stinky” cc I’ve ever had. Also the most notable thing about it is the quality of production. Fantastic rolling.
