Cohiba Siglo I OBM Nov 2015

The Cohiba Siglo I is the smallest of the Siglo range, a perlas (like the Montecristo No.5 and Rafael Gonzalez Perlas), it is slightly smaller than a minuto (like the San Cristobal de La Habana El Principe or Partagas Shorts) at 40 ring gauge x 102 mm or 4 inches in length. I had a Siglo I around 5 months ago so I considered that it should be time that I re-visit this cigar as it approached the four-year mark.

As I stated in my previous review of this cigar, I've found that the Siglo I tends to be the strongest of the Linea 1492 range (i.e. Cohiba Siglo I, II, III, IV, V and VI). That doesn't necessarily mean that it gets above medium to medium-full, rather they are more intense in those typical Cohiba flavours than other cigars in this line. Again, this was true in this case, as it was never above medium in strength at any stage.

In my last review in June 2019 I wrote that the flavours were strongest with that core Cohiba grass and hay, some honey and notes of black espresso coffee building in intensity in the back half. There was no real citrus, spice or cream texture to the cigar at that stage of its development. This was exactly how it was today, which suggests to me that I should re-visit this in another 6 to 12 months as a minimum. Still, it was a nice way to spend 30 to 35 minutes to cap off a productive day.

Nubbed it!  Great cigar with a very smooth profile and evolution, with no bumps or elbows the entire way through especially considering it was dated July this year.  Thank God I have 49 left.  

Giving the Tacos a slight lead here, since the smoke output on those coated the mouth immensely.

It was good, quality tobacco with a tight drawn little too tight for how fresh and hygroscopic the tobacco still is.  But it is a good cigar and would be very good at a couple of years.  It seems like it's got some long legs on them but the blend is very similar to the years prior "Year of the ..." cigars by Davidoff.  Honestly, my favorite Davidoff right outta the store are the classic no.2  which they're calling the "Signature" line now, but is one of the three original vitolas Zino came out with in both his Cuban line and his D.R. endeavor.  The no.1, no.2, and ambassadrice (which is another favorite).  Also the Escurio robust is fantastic.  Reminded me of a fresh JL2, no shit!!  I think I'll smoke another Don Alejandro too tonight after this Cojonu 2003.  I don't think I'm going to do well in preserving this box as I've smoked one from it since I dug it outta my cooler over at my brother's.

Late night at the office. Finished a Tatuaje Cojonu 2003. I think the picture tells how it was. Now off to pry out another Don Alejandro to finish the night off before turning the lights out and going home. 

This box is just off the chain. Best smoking Cuban DC’s I’ve had in a long time. OMR JUN 15. I’ve 18 left as of today. All seven have been fantastic ? tasting ? quality Cuban tobacco ? heavenly!

Ridiculously generous evening of smoking and conversation courtesy of @Bram Smoker.  

The batting order in this 6-hour session was simply perfect: Don Alejandro (smooth as silk) followed by Short Robaina (this little minutos packed a nicotine punch, loads of flavor and absolutely stood up to the other bookends) followed by Maestros (there was an almond cookie note weaving in and out that was spectacular)...a VR extravaganza!  I could die happy tonight...

Thank you for a memorable night and for sharing your VR treasure chest.
