An RE Friday with @Nate Chu C&C for a Saturday morning with this Sir Winston from 03. Today is going to be great if this cigar is anything to judge it by. What a super smooth star

First cigar of the year.

How was that monster? Box code? I have a box from last year still not cracked yet. Is it time or set and forget ?

I really enjoy those. How was it?

It was a really good cigar. It was a VERY fruity smoke. Loaded with berry/cherry flavors as well as cocoa notes. It was a solid medium the whole way through. In my mind it would be the perfect golf course smoke. Tons of flavor all up front and large enough to stay lit for a long time with little trouble. My wife picked it up for me from an LCDH in Toronto while visiting a friend in 2017 so I wasn't able to get a box code. Cigars of this size aren't normally my go-to but I would definitely be happy if I had a few more of these around. I am confident you will like it, there wasn't a lot not to like in my experience today.

Mystery day for me.

I split a box of “cigars” w a buddy in the DR in 2014. We thought they might be real.

I kept one stick in the humidor. Now that I’ve smoked quite a few CC I thought I’d give it a go. Also had a long zoom call set up w some buddies.

cigar looked promising. Mottled wrapper. Hmmm, maybe this one had some good oily tobacco.

after the v cut very easy draw. Made sense. It was at 60 rh for a long time. Nearly flavorless though.

Cigar turned out to be uninspired. Decent. Mellow. But zero complexity. Zero flavor development. Not bad. Just not very good.

had some wrapper issues mid way. Maybe not as good of a roll as I had thought?

zoom call lasted 2.5 hours. Was great to catch up w some mates.

I've never seen a fake of the old Montecristo label before (clearly fake if it's supposed to be cuban).

Trinidad Short Robusto T Edicion Limitada 2010 and Basil Hayden's... Best cigar I've smoked all yr

I picked up a bottle of that Caribbean Reserve Rye and personally I like the regular BH better.  I was expecting a little more sweetness because of the rum but I almost felt that it had a spicier note left on the throat.  Just my opinion of course.

The DR is apparently notorious for fake Cubans sold to tourists. Some are quite good, but fakes. I can’t find it now, but there was an article a few years ago about the absurd number of fake Cubans sold there.

ultimately the point there is to know your source well. I now only buy from a few sources but largely from our host. Nothing like a little quality control on top of authentic cigars IMHO.

If I am going to a place where I know I can smoke a cigar, I bring my own in a small airtight crushproof container. I will look at their humidor, and sometimes buy one but if I want a good cigar on vacation now, I bring them.
