Sancho Non Plus, ATE MAY 18. These are a fine little smoke, always a satisfying pleasure. Moderate sweetness, a good dose of salty woodsmoke, and an umami earthy richness. Perhaps a coriander spice, but no peppery heat. ‘Drier’ in flavour than a Bolivar, less punchy than a young PLPC, and less sweet and creamy than a Monte #4. Are these really discontinued?

DEC 17 HdM Du Depute which just arrived the other day. Took a chance to try since it felt and looked good, as a baseline. Pleasantly surprised with a nice lightly sweetened milky medium coffee note.

Sir Winston 2019 - It's such a shame that Churchills are going the way of the dodo bird.  I could smoke Sir Winnie, Esplendidos, and RyJ Churchills every day and be absolutely cigar satisfied.  Others are good but boy it's hard to beat the Churchills in my book

I've heard mixed things about this cigar so far.  Most people say its pleasant but no one I've heard says its a "dog rocket" especially for something so young.  I scored the two box deal when they first went up a couple weeks ago on 24:24 and am eagerly awaiting their arrival.  Unfortunately, I think I'll try one after a short acclimation period and forget about them for a bit.  

 

Interesting little book there.  What is it? Is that a notebook for all of your smoking notes?   I just use a little spiral ring notebook but its getting a bit full and the spiral is starting to wear down.  Looking into something a little better for my tasting notes.

It’s a Punch Punch REG ENE 19. I picked them up from 24:24 late last year. They are young but so far they’ve been smoking well. In terms of the book, it’s called “The Cuban Cigar Handbook” and I first learnt about it from the FOH discussion forum. It’s a brief history lesson on Cuban Cigars coupled with profiles of each of the growers, rum pairings and other general information. I’ve been smoking cigars for 15 years and I’ve only really started to learn about it since joining this forum. Anyway, nice chatting with you. Have a good weekend.

My new favorite pairing - a PLPC (TOS MAR-17) with a Dark and Stormy made with Gosling's Dark Bermuda Rum and Royal Jamaican Ginger Beer.  The sweetness of the Rum brings out the sweetness in the cigar.  I keep trying different drinks with different cigars to see how they affect the taste.  This pairing was fantastic.  It was even an overcast day with dark clouds and 25 mph winds -- everything meshed perfectly.

Would love to. Hoping to head to Yellowstone again in August for a few weeks, which I did in 2015 and 2018, but plans up in the air right now for several reasons.

Cohiba Robustos UAO May 2019

The Cohiba Robusto would have to be one of the more popular Robusto cigars on our forum and one of the most popular Cohiba cigars too. It's not hard to work out why. Simply put, like the H.Upmann Connossieur A, it tends to provide a rounded flavour profile indicative of cigars that have been well-rested even when in their youth, and I'm talking about 6 to 12 months in relation to the Cohiba Robustos.

This cigar had all the hallmarks of what you are likely to get from a Cohiba Robustos at around the 12 month mark; mocha coffee, vanilla, honey (towards the end interestingly) some spice and Cohiba grass (or hay). I would say that the mocha coffee flavour was the most dominant, as they age I find this flavour recedes and the honey and butter creaminess builds.

The strength was consistent throughout at medium-mild and it was easily 'nubbable', if that's a word! The retrohale was great too...roasted nuts or coffee beans is the best way to describe it, (it was) like heaven to the senses!
