Had this Monte A from around 2010/11. The person who sent it slapped it into a plain bubble wrap envelope and that was it. Arrived cracked and a little bent.  I let it sit, forgotten,  unloved for years.  Today I thought I'd give it the run under the tap treatment.  Gave it two solid passes under the tap. Dried it off and lit it.  So far it's smoking well. Firm draw but great burn line and nice flavours.  Hope it lasts to the nub. Wish me luck!

Gave up on the Monte A. No life in it. Let's see what a 10yo RASS can do.

10 year RASS should be really good. Too bad about the A, I have one from 2010 that just keeps waiting.

Trinidad Media Luna  BSM Nov 2019

According to Habanos S.A. (as the Trinidad family has a different origin story for the Trinidad marca prior to the Cuban Revolution), 2019 is the 50th anniversary of Trinidad marca. To commemorate the occasion, there has been three new additions to the Trinidad line-up; the Media Luna, the Esmeralda and the Topes.

The Media Luna is a Marinas size with a 50 ring gauge x 115mm (or 4½ inch) length. Initially I thought that the name 'Media Luna', meaning half-moon in Spanish, was a gemstone reference like the Esmeralda (Emerald in English) and the Topes (Topaz in English), but the origin of the name has been included in the internal advisory note which comes with the box. To quote directly, "Media Luna" under (read: the) Trinidad Brand is the vitola selected by Habanos, S.A. in 2019 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the brand created in 1969. It is a vitola which (read: with) excellent dimensions for those who like thick ring gauge and small size Habanos. "Media Luna" is the name of the Hostel with an important architectonic value located in the street of the same name in the city of Trinidad."

It's amazing to consider that just five years ago this marca was languishing. Today, judging by these recent 50th anniversary releases, it has transformed into a brand worthy of premium status, in my opinion.

In the first third, the cigar mainly consisted of wood and coffee layered within a buttered texture. Like the outstanding 2019 Topes I had a little over a week ago, as the cigar entered the middle third it started to resemble a butter pastry with some savoury salt and slight gingerbread-type sweetness. You might even remark that it was a little nutty, as in cashews. In the final third, there was a pickup in intensity in the coffee and woodiness, even a slight Earthiness. I made sure to slow down when smoking this as the flavours on the palate were quite rich and the smoke output per draw was voluminous, to say the least.

Make no mistake this cigar, like the initial 2019 Topes I had recently, smoked like a premium, quality cigar. In comparison to that Topes, it had more strength, more intense woody flavour and the aforementioned nuttiness which wasn't present in the Topes. After smoking this cigar today, I am now eager to see what the Esmeralda is like.

H Upmann - Magnum 46 - TOU ABR 19. Just received from our host. What a good cigar. Haven’t had the Magnum 46 in a while and thought to pick it up a little while ago. Perfect size, very nice aroma, medium firm draw just how I like it, great burn. Luckily, this box came with over a year age on it. May need to pick more up.

Update on tonight’s Siglo II: amazing. 
 

What a beautiful cigar. You could tell it would improve a bit with some age, but knocked it out of the park even as young as it is. GREAT flavor, absolutely perfect construction - zero negatives, only potential. 

I could not get enough of this,

The RASS was stellar. Got the stewed fruit, got some cayenne pepper, cinnamon, cedar, etc.  Just a real flavour bomb of a cigar.

‘18 BCJ that’s also smoothened out. A little wet as I’m trying to work out my humidity, but still smoking fine.  Mostly a floral sweetness at this point, not getting the strong coffee and leather that the BCJ is known for.

MSU JUL 17. I actually like D4's with a lighter wrapper when they are less than 4 or 5 years old. These have been outstanding even though some sticks have water and green spots from the difficulty with wrappers and curing at that time. At least from what I've heard and observed. Some are just plain ugly but the taste is in no way affected on these cigars. 

UAO MAR 18. TODAY, MSU 17 beats UAO 18, 93 to 89.

Glad you liked it! The Siglo II was my very first cigar introduced to me by my father who loved the Siglo II..the rest is history

Glad you enjoyed it. It’s been a good box that hasn’t disappointed.  It’s a reliable cigar that doesn’t always come to mind first but when I do reach for it I always question why I don’t smoke it more often.
