ERDM - Choix Supreme (RET MAR 13)

For the last 2 years I've smoked 3-4 from this very same box and the have been tasting really awful. Before that they tasted really great and just like I remember them tasting from other boxes. Humidity and temperature have been more or less the same over the years so that can't be it. So was wondering if anybody else have experienced a sick period with this cigar at age 5-8 years in general or even with the specific box code if you have it? @JohnS might you have some input on this?

Smoking really well considering I dropped it in the pool an hour ago. 
wipe dry and 15 min on the high deck of my grill at the lowest heat setting. A touch up from the perfecdraw and as they say in France. Voila. 
 

second PSD4 I dropped in the pool this year. Might let this box rest for a bit. ?

If storage conditions are stable, and more importantly, you haven't noticed a change in your other cigars in your humidor, then the most plausible reason for what's occurred is due to blend change over time. The flavours you adored in the first few years have mellowed and other flavours have now become more dominant. This is how it can be with aging your stock.

I'm not familiar with that specific box code so I welcome other members' input. I can tell you that you can bide your time and wait for the cigars to develop further. It's possible that these El Rey del Mundo Choix Supremes will 'turn' again and they can become more palatable. If I were you I'd come back to them in 12 to 24 months, maybe smoke other ERdM CS in the meantime. After all, recent examples (on 24:24) has been excellent.

a Perfecdraw would likely help with that skinny.  Gotta take your time and be careful (since you have so little room for error with such a small RG), but since you’re chucking it anyway, there would be no real risk.

Edmundo Dantes Conde Belicoso 2016 - Edición Regional México TOR Nov 2016

According to Cuban Cigar Website, the Edmundo Dantes brand was created in 2007 by Max Gutmann, owner of the Mexican Habanos distributor, for use with Mexican special releases. Because of the design similarities with Montecristo, it was long rumoured that these were Montecristo cigars, sold under the Edmundo Dantes brand because of 'copyright issues' in Mexico. This is untrue. Montecristo cigars are sold in Mexico.

There have been three releases thus far; the 2007 Nro. 109 El Conde 109 (50 rg x 184 mm or 7¼ inches in length), the 2011 Sublimes Conde 54 (54 rg x 164 mm or 6½ inches in length) and the 2016 Campanas Conde Belicoso (52 rg x 140 mm or 5½ inches in length). All three releases have been highly reputable and sought after by cigar enthusiasts.

This Edmundo Dantes Conde Belicosos certainly lived up to its lavish reputation. Best described as a blend of Montecristo and Por Larranaga marcas, this was all cocoa, coffee, nut and caramel marshmallow sweetness with a gorgeous citrus tang on the retrohale and draw. It's no wonder these sell and are much sought after. Consider yourself fortunate if you've picked up a box!

I appreciate your input @JohnS, thx  it’s stored in one of my smaller humidors, so not one i smoke from often. But i did recently smoke a H. Upmann Connoisseur No. 1 from 2011 smoke quite well as I seem to remember. I’ll try something else from that humidor hopefully during this weekend and see how it goes. Also I have a ERDM CS box from 2018 I believe. I should give that one a try as well for comparison. But yeah I hope the will turn around with time. Mental note to self is to let them rest for at least a year as you suggest. Probably leaning more towards 2 years.

And oh would definitely buy another box but I’m running rally low on storage space at the moment  I know if I set up another cooler I will fill it up in no time. It never ends.

Finally got some to hide from the kids and work outside with a Cigar.  Ramon Allones Specially Selected 25'.  Its actually not one of my favorites but I got a half box at the start of this year and figure I should give them a try once more.me to

@MigsG I am no fan of SCDLH but this one was really good. I also have a back up from @StogieSteve23 that will be enjoyed in a few years. This was really good till the last 1/4 ...then needed to smoke real slow. Thanks ??

Agreed. I have tried the PD on the PLMC before and blew it apart. Such a small ring gauge to work with, it just cracks the wrapper. Probably more patience required.

Beautiful Edmundo from 2018.  I think these cigars fly under the radar but a good one is right up there with Rio Seco and San Juan in my opinion.
